Grows with pine on calcareous soil in southern Sweden, mainly on Gotland.

A good edible mushroom that works well in soups, sauces and stews.
Similar species
All saffron milkcaps exude a carrot-coloured to wine-red latex in fresh injuries and are good edible mushrooms. Lactarius sanguifluus is the only saffron milkcap that exudes a wine-red latex immediately after the flesh is broken.
