Characteristics
Ecology
Often in groups under old spruce trees in coniferous forests but also under deciduous trees in parks or roadsides.
Notes
Has a strong and pleasant scent of almond or anise, and the entire mushroom develops yellow stains upon touch. A tasty edible mushroom but falls into the group of Agaricus that can contain high levels of the heavy metal cadmium and should therefore not be consumed too frequently.
Similar species
There are other brown-scaly Agaricus species that may resemble, but these usually turn red instead of yellow in the flesh upon handling.
