Characteristics

– The fruitbody is richly branched, initially white, often turning grayish with age.
– Branch tips are pointed, comb-like branched.
– The fruitbodies are quite small, usually about 3-5 cm and rarely over 10 cm high.

Ecology

Grows in large or small groups on the ground in deciduous and coniferous forests.

Notes

Edible, but can be difficult to clean as needles and other forest litter often stick between the branches.

Similar species

There are several small white coral fungi, but none have these characteristically comb-like branched tips.
