Ecology
Grows with oak and beech in deciduous forests and parks, often on calcareous and clayey soils.
Notes
Sometimes stated as edible, but no species in the genus are recommended as edible mushrooms due to the risk of confusion with dangerous poisonous mushrooms.
Similar species
May be confused with Macrolepiota procera which has dark scales on the cap and a stem with a distinct ring that can be detached from the stem. Be ware of other similar and dangerous fly agarics such as A. pantherina and A. regalis.
