Characteristics

- Cap convex to expanded, white, silky-shiny, often with pinkish-red spots, with an uneven and wavy margin.
- Gills adnexed, notched, white.
- Stem white, sometimes with blue-green spots towards the stem base.
- Flesh white, with a faint farinaceous smell and taste.

Ecology

Grows with oak and birch in deciduous woodland in southern and central Nordic region.

Notes

There are many dangerously poisonous mushrooms among white-gilled fungi, so do not pick Tricholoma columbetta unless you are completely certain of your identification.

Similar species

The pinkish-red spots on the cap and the blue-green spots at the stem base are good field characters.

Amanita virosa has a ring and volva, very poisonous!
Tricholoma stiparophyllum has a matt cap, smells of cooked beetroot, poisonous.
Tricholoma lascivum s. lat. has a matt cap, different smell, poisonous.
Tricholoma inamoenum has a strong, pungent smell, poisonous.
