Gassy Knight

- Cap convex to expanded, dry, cream-white to dirty white.
- Gills adnexed, white, widely spaced.
- Stem slender, whitish, often somewhat darker towards the stem base.
- Flesh white, with a strong and unpleasant pungent smell described as coal gas.

Usually grows with spruce in mossy and damp coniferous forest.
