Ecology
Grows with oak and hazel on calcareous soil, mainly on Gotland and Oland, rare in the southern parts of the Nordic region.
Notes
Edible, but generally regarded as somewhat less good than its relative Tuber aestivum.
Similar species
May be confused with Tuber aestivum, which when mature has a more sweetish and pleasant odour reminiscent of maize. When dried, the differences in odour are not clear.
