Ecology
Grows with birch and spruce in moist, mossy deciduous and coniferous forest. Common throughout the country.
Notes
Edible, but must be parboiled in plenty of water, which is then discarded before preparation.
Similar species
Several greyish milkcaps may be similar, but none of them are poisonous after parboiling.
